A generator is a promise. Maintenance keeps it.

Here's the uncomfortable truth about standby generators: they sit idle for months, then have to perform perfectly on the worst night of the year. The units that fail during outages aren't usually broken — they're neglected. Dead battery. Old oil. A fault code nobody noticed because nobody looked since installation day. Every one of those is preventable, and prevention is what a maintenance plan is.

What's included

Annual full service: oil and filter change, air filter service, spark plug check, battery load test, coolant check (liquid-cooled units), fuel system inspection, transfer switch inspection, control panel check, and a full-load test simulating an outage. Battery replacement when testing shows weakness — before it becomes a failure. Priority scheduling: plan members jump the queue for repairs, especially during and after storms when everyone calls at once. Service records: documented maintenance history, which protects your warranty and your resale value.

What it costs vs. what it prevents

Annual maintenance runs a few hundred dollars — against a $10,000–$20,000 investment that exists for one purpose. Skipping it to save $300 is like skipping oil changes on a car you need for a cross-country drive. The math only works one way. And most generator warranties require documented maintenance — skip service and you may be skipping warranty coverage too.

For units we didn't install

Bought a house with a generator? Inherited one from a previous installer who's gone? We take on maintenance for any standby unit in our service area — Generac, Kohler, Cummins, Briggs & Stratton. First visit is a full baseline inspection: we find out what you actually have and what condition it's in. Read what maintenance involves.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often does my generator need professional service?

Once a year at minimum, plus a service after any extended outage run (multi-day). The weekly self-test doesn't count as service — it's a check, not maintenance.

What if my generator hasn't been serviced in years?

That's common and fixable. We'll do a baseline inspection, catch up all deferred maintenance, replace what's worn (usually the battery), and test the full system. Better late than during an outage.

Do maintenance plans include repairs?

The plan covers the annual service and priority scheduling; repairs are quoted separately if we find something. Plan members get priority booking and straightforward pricing on any repair work needed.
